Love Is Best

I realized sometime in the middle of April that I needed to do something for my mother and my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. I picked up this simple pattern to make into cute little pillows. These were really easy to stitch up, but I finished a little later than I had hoped due to stitching borders for a round robin I'm participating in. This was my first experience tea dying fabric, and it was remarkably easy. I boiled four tea bags with three cups of water for five minutes, reduced to a simmer, threw the fabric in, and left it there for 15 minutes. I then removed it from the stove, rinsed the fabric until clear, threw them in the dryer, then pressed them. I have no idea how colorfast this is, but the threads certainly aren't, so I'll have to tell both mothers not to wash the pillow.

I love the way the different pillow fabrics change the look of the stitching. Some very nice ladies at JoAnns fabrics helped me pick the fabric out. Next time I make tuck pillows, I think I'll make the side pieces wider. I was using suggestions from an online site. Completed May 6, 2004. |
