Fairgrounds socks completed

Just under the wire for June! I basically finished knitting them on the road, but I couldn’t cast off until I had borrowed my sister’s copy of a Knitter’s Handbook. I did that this morning, and here they are:

finished socks

Pattern: My own, using the 365 Knitting Stitches a Year Perpetual Calendar
Yarn: Less than one skein of Socks that Rock, medium weight, in Fairgrounds
Needles: US 2 (2.75 mm) Inox Circulars for the foot, US 2 (3.0 mm) Addi Turbos for the cuff
Date Started: May 29, 2006
Date Completed: June 30, 2006
Time: 9.5 hours for the first sock, 9 for the second for a total of 18.5 hours

So the bad part of making up your own pattern is that when you mess up, there’s no one else to blame. :) I do love how the socks came out, though – easy to keep track of where you were, yet not so mindless that it was boring. I’ll try to write it up after a) I have more time, which might be quite a while and b) Miyon finishes her version of the same socks.

As for my first day of work, it ended up being just a couple of hours. I had worked out an earlier start date so my health insurance would kick in (the new place does it monthly, so if I hadn’t started by July 1st, no health insurance until August 1st). So basically I was just going in to get in the system, and then I go back for official start and orientation on Wednesday. Small misunderstanding on my part, as I thought I was actually starting yesterday. :) It’s working out really well, though – I have an employee number and health insurance starting tomorrow, so I no longer feel jobless, which is good (I know I was never technically jobless, but it still felt like it). I also got to have coffee with one of my new co-workers, and she seems really nice. And since I basically have a long weekend, I have time to get settled into the apartment and actually enjoy my time before I have to worry about performing well at work. :) As for the apartment – it feels weird to be a renter again, but it’s temporary while we look for a house. A lot of our stuff is going into storage, which means no sewing for me, but I had already pulled a good stash of yarn to get me through and left it at my sister’s house. :) I didn’t make very good knitting progress on the road anyway, so I still have lots of stuff to work on!
